The Fiat Mefistofele was an Italian sports car built in 1923 as a single unit. This unusual and unique car was created on the initiative of Ernest Elridge - a pilot, engineer and rally driver. Mefistofele was constructed using elements of other Fiat racing cars and… the company's aircraft engine! The heart of the car was the 12-cylinder Fiat A.12 engine with a capacity of 21.7 liters and a maximum power of 320 HP! The main purpose of this car was to break the speed record. After numerous trials and starts in regular races, which allowed for the refinement of the design, Ernest Elridge broke the record on July 12, 1924 and achieved his goal by accelerating the Fiat Mephistopheles to a staggering speed of 234.98 km / h for those times! After this historic event, the car changed hands until it was bought by Fiat in 1969 and placed in the brand's museum in Turin.
