The Ford Capri is an American coupe passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1968. Its serial production lasted from 1969 to 1984 (in Germany) and until 1987 (in Great Britain).
The Capri model was designed at the Ford Motor Company concern to take advantage of the success of the Mustang model, but on the European markets. Thus, Capri was created from the very beginning with the consumers on the Old Continent in mind. Its main designer was Philips T. Clark - the same one who was responsible for the design of the Ford Mustang. In terms of design, it used many components and elements from the Cortina II model. The Ford Capri turned out to be quite a commercial success, and in the course of its production nearly 1.9 million copies of this car were sold. In the course of serial production, three generations of this model were created, differing mainly in the design of the body and the engines used. It is worth adding that the Ford Capri competed in numerous car races in the 1970s and 1980s, for example in the colors of the Zakspeed team from Germany.
