The GMC Model 270 is an American internal combustion engine from the Second World War and the post-war period. Its first small-scale units entered service in 1939, and large-scale production began in 1941 and continued until 1963. The GMC Model 270 was a 4.4-liter inline 6-cylinder engine capable of generating 87-91 hp at 2,750 rpm in the first serial units. The Model 270 engine was developed at an express pace of about 20 days by the General Motors Company (GMC) on the order of the American government, and the basis for its development was the GMC Model 256 engine. This engine, despite the very fast pace of development, turned out to be successful. Its main disadvantage was the tendency to overheat when working at high speed for a long time. The GMC Model 270 engine also became the basis for the Model 302 engine developed in the 1950s, which was a de facto modification of the 270 and is often treated as its derivative version. The GMC Model 270 engine was used primarily in GMC CCKW trucks and DUKW amphibious vehicles.
