Gellen Lighthouse was built in 1904, its tests began a year later, and it was put into operation in 1907. The facility is located on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee in its western part and points to the entrance to the Gellenstorm Canal. The lighthouse was erected by Julius Pintsch AG with its seat in Berlin, and its construction was mainly made of steel. The Gellen lighthouse has the form of a small, round tower, which was erected on a stone base. The height of the lighthouse tower is 12.3 meters. The lantern casts white, green and red light. It is currently painted white, with a red lantern and a black roof. The facility is still active, but is not open to the public. Due to its specific shape, the Gellen lighthouse found its way in 1927 on one of the German banknotes, and in the GDR - on one of the postage stamps.
