Rolls-Royce RB.37 Derwent is an aircraft turbojet engine from the Second World War and the Cold War period of British production. The first successful engine start-up took place in 1943. In the Derwent I version, the engine was 213.4 cm long and 109.2 cm in diameter. The weight of the "dry" power unit was 442 kilograms. The thrust generated by this engine reached 8.9 kN, while in the Derwent V version it was already 17.79 kN. Development of the RB.37 Derwent engine began at Rover, but was taken over in 1943 and continued by Rolls-Royce. In essence, the RR Derwent is a greatly modernized version of the RR RB.23 Welland engine, with more generated thrust, much greater reliability and a longer overall service life. In the course of production, several versions of this engine were created, among which we can mention: Derwent I (basic version), Derwent II (version with increased thrust up to 9.8 kN) or Derwent 5 (engine which is a reduced version of the RR Nene engine). The Rolls-Royce RB.37 Derwent engine, in various versions, was used as a power unit for such aircraft as: Gloster Meteor F.8 or the prototype Avro 707 or Avro Canada C102 Jetliner.
