Ardpol 72-001 Jerzy Drzewiecki JD-2

The Jerzy Drzewiecki JD-2 was a Polish sports plane from the interwar period, with an all-wooden structure in a low wing configuration. The drive was provided by a single engine Anzani 45 HP or Genet 80 HP. The flight of the prototype took place in 1926, and serial production continued in the years 1926-1930.

The JD-2 was the first Polish sports aircraft designed and constructed after the end of World War I. The machine was built at the Aviation Section of the Warsaw University of Technology, and its designer was Jerzy Drzewiecki - his initials were also used to designate the plane. The JD-2 had several positive features, most of all it had good performance as a machine of this class, and was very agile and prone to even delicate movements of the dragline. At the same time, however, the JD-2 had a number of disadvantages. Above all, it was very sensitive to drag and showed poor horizontal stability in flight, which required a lot of skill from the pilot if he wanted to master the machine. The basic version of the plane was also characterized by a very delicate wing structure, which was susceptible to damage. In the years 1929-1930, a version of the JD-2 bis was constructed, in which most of these problems were eliminated.
