The Lloyd FJ 40.05 was an Austro-Hungarian prototype fighter plane in the classic layout with a fixed landing gear in the classic layout from the First World War. The flight of the prototype took place in 1916, but the plane never entered mass production. The drive was provided by a single Austro-Daimler engine with 160 HP. The machine was 6.92 meters long with a wingspan of 11.17 meters. The Lloyd FJ 40.05 was designed as a new fighter machine for the Austro-Hungarian Air Force, and its designers tried to solve the problem of using machine guns before the synchronizer was introduced. As a result, a plane with a very unusual shape of the bow was created, with a two-man crew, which allowed to use rifles without fear, but generated a lot of aerodynamic drag and clearly limited the pilot's visibility forward. As a result of the tests, the shape of the hull was changed and the single-seater version was introduced, but the Lloyd FJ 40.05 did not arouse the interest of Austro-Hungarian decision-makers and was not put into production.
