The Peace Memorial in Works in today's Czech Republic was erected in the years 1910-1912 on the former battlefield of Austerlitz, as a grave commemorating all the soldiers killed in this battle. The main initiator of its erection was a priest and a Napoleonist - Antonin Slovak. The author of the grave design was the architect Josef Fanta, and the surroundings and some architectural details were designed by F. Anyz and C. Vosmik. Interestingly, despite tense political relations, both the Austro-Hungarian, French and Russian governments contributed to the construction of the tomb. The grave was planned to be opened to the public in 1914, but the outbreak of World War I shattered these plans. The tomb was opened only in 1923. The total height of the building is 26 meters. There are many religious themes in it with images or sculptures of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary or the Evangelists. It is worth adding that in the four corners of the grave there are four coats of arms symbolizing: Austria, France and Russia (countries taking part in the Battle of Austerlitz) and Moravia (the land where the battle was fought).
