RS Models 92053 Netherlands II WW fighter Fokker D.XXIII

The Fokker D.XXIII was a Dutch low-wing fighter prototype of a mixed WWII design. The drive was provided by two Walter Sagitta I-SR engines with 580 HP each. The flight of the prototype took place in May 1939. The machine, however, never entered mass production. The deck armament consisted of four machine guns: two with a caliber of 7.92 mm and two with a caliber of 13.2 mm.

Initially, D.XXIII was created as a private initiative of the Fokker aviation company. The new plane was a highly avant-garde design, as it had two engines driving one propeller and one pulling propellers, and it also had a horizontal tail mounted on two beams. It was also planned to use a catapult for the pilot, but these plans did not materialize. Due to the unusual and rarely used fighter system, the new machine required some refinement - first of all, the replacement of the engines with much more powerful ones and the improvement of their cooling system. However, the development work on D.XXIII was interrupted by the German invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940, and the only copy was destroyed on the ground during the fighting.
