Siemens Vectron is a collective name for the family of electric and diesel locomotives by the German company Siemens, and more specifically by Siemens Transportation Systems. The first prototypes of these locomotives were built at the beginning of the 21st century, and production started in 2010. The service weight of these locomotives ranges from 80 to 87 tons. A single locomotive is 18.98 meters long and 3.012 meters wide. The design speed reaches, depending on the version, up to 160-200 km / h. Locomotives from the Siemens Vectron family were developed by 2010, and their official presentation and production initiation also took place this year. Outwardly, they are quite similar to the Siemens Eurosprinter locomotives, but structurally different from them. Above all, the emphasis was placed on even greater efficiency, increased driving safety, as well as the lowest possible operating costs of the end user. It is worth adding that in the family of locomotives there are rail vehicles powered by direct current, alternating current, multi-system or diesel vehicles. Locomotives of the Siemens Vectron series are currently in operation or have been ordered by many carriers, including: DB Schenker Rail, ELL Austria, MRCE or CD Cargo.
