ORP Orzeł (291) is a modern Polish submarine of Soviet production. Jednsotka is also a diesel-electric (SS) hunting submarine. The keel for this unit was laid in 1984, the launch took place in June 1985, and the entry into service in the Polish Navy - in 1986. The length of the ship is 72.6 meters and a width of 9.9 meters. The underwater displacement is around 3,200 tons, and the maximum underwater speed is around 17 knots. The unit is equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes.

ORP Orzeł (291) is one of the Kilo-class ships (project 877). In the Soviet Navy, ships of this type were designed to replace the Whiskey-class units, i.e. medium-range units, intended to operate at a relatively close distance from their own bases. Compared to their predecessors, the new Soviet submarines had a completely different hull shape, which provided much better hydrodynamic properties. They also have better soundproofing of the drive unit and are generally much quieter. They also feature a much more perfect reloading system, which works much faster, with torpedo tubes. ORP Orzeł belongs to the subtype designated as Project 877E. ORP Orzeł (291), shortly after entering service, made a cruise to the North Sea and beyond the Arctic Circle. In 1997, the unit took part in the BALTOPS 97 exercises. A year later it took part in the large-scale international sea maneuvers Beijing 98, as well as BALTOPS 98 and PASSEX 98. In 2013, ORP Orzeł underwent a minor renovation .in. ballast tanks, and from 2014, another renovation took place, planned for 9 months, which, however, lasted until 2017. In the same year, a fire broke out on the ship, during which it was flooded, and some of its equipment was damaged.
