Pourquoi Pas? is a French sailing-motor research and training vessel from the first half of the 20th century. The keel for this unit was laid in 1907, and its launch took place in 1908. The ship was 40 meters long and 9.2 meters wide. The displacement reached approx. 450 tons. The maximum speed was up to 7.5 - 8 knots. The crew consisted of 35 people. The unit was built in a shipyard in the city of Saint-Malo. Pourquoi Pas? launched in 1908, it was the fourth vessel of that name in the French Navy. The vessel was built for the French explorer and traveler Jean-Baptiste Charcot for his 1908-1910 Arctic expedition. After the unit returned to France, the ship became the first training unit of the French navy (1912). In 1918-1925, the Pourquoi Pas? she took part in multiple research expeditions in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. Also later, although less frequently, the unit was used for research purposes. Ultimately, Pourquoi Pas? it sank off the coast of Iceland on September 16, 1936.
