The Savoia-Marchetti SM.82 Canguru is an Italian, heavy, three-engine, transport and bomber plane in the low wing structure with a classic tail from the Second World War. The flight of the SM.82 prototype took place in 1939. The SM82 is actually a further development of the SM.75 model, from which it differs in greater weight, a redesigned tail, and the installation of a hydraulically operated turret on the top of the fuselage at the rear of the cockpit pilot's position. Initially powered by three Alfa Romeo 128 engines, and later Piaggio P.XI. Originally, it served as a strategic bomber, attacking Gibraltar and the oil fields of the Persian Gulf. From 1942 the SM.82 was used almost exclusively as a transport aircraft to supply troops in North Africa. After 1943, some of the survivors of SM.82 served in the Luftwaffe.
