Ardpol 48-007 SZD-12 MUCHA 100

SZD-12 Mucha 100 was a Polish, single-seat, training and sports glider in a wooden structure high wing structure. The glider was developed at Szybowcowe Zakłady Doświadczalnych (SZD) based in Bielsko-Biała. The flight of the prototype took place in 1953, and the serial production lasted in the years 1953-1960, ending with the production of about 290 copies of this aircraft. The curb weight of the glider was 205 kilograms.

Work on the SZD-12 began in 1952, and the pace of research and development on the new glider was high. The works were led by Władysław Okarmus. In their course, it was decided to base on many solutions used in the IS-2 Mucha glider. The new aircraft was created in response to the demand for a new high-altitude training and performance glider. The SZD-12 was also supposed to be a glider that would allow to obtain the Golden Glider Badge. Ultimately, the SZD-12 Mucha 100 turned out to be a successful design, which was exported to several countries, including Finland, India, Italy and the USSR. In the course of serial production, one main development version of the glider was created, designated SZD-12 Mucha 100A, which had new wing fittings, air brake drive and metal (not wooden) brake plates.
