The KV-122 was a prototype Soviet heavy tank from the Second World War. The drive was to be provided by a single engine with a power of 600 HP. The armament of the vehicle was to consist of a single 122mm D-25T tank gun and three 7.62mm DT machineguns.
The experience gained by the Red Army during the great armored struggle at Kursk in July 1943 indicated the need to develop a new heavy tank, which would be able to engage in a fairly equal fight with the German Pz.Kpfw vehicles. V Panther and Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger. In order to minimize the time needed for research and development, it was decided to use the chassis and hull of the already produced KV-1s tank and to install a completely new turret with a 122 mm gun, instead of the 85 mm gun used on the KV-1. In the course of the trials, it was finally decided to use the D-25T gun. Although the new tank had a much greater firepower, it did not enter mass production, and the IS-2 turned out to be the new Soviet heavy tank, using the same D-25T gun. Thus, the KV-122 never got beyond the prototype stage.
