A-Model 07262 Tomashevich Pegas (Pegasus) Soviet WW2 strike aircraft

Tomaszewicz Pegaz was a Soviet prototype attack aircraft from the Second World War. The prototype flight took place in 1942 or early 1943, but the machine never entered mass production. The length of this aircraft was 8.79 meters with a wingspan of 12.63 meters. The drive was provided by two Szwiecow M-11F engines with a capacity of 140 HP each. The deck armament consisted of a single 12.7 mm Berezie UBS machine gun and two 23 mm cannons. The machine could carry a load of bombs weighing up to 500 kilograms.

The Tomaszewicz Pegaz was designed as the cheapest and the simplest to produce attack aircraft, intended for direct support of own troops. At the same time, the emphasis was placed on the highest possible resistance to anti-aircraft fire and survivability on the battlefield. Many of its elements are made of wood and low-quality steel. Relatively cheap and easy to manufacture aircraft engines were also used. All these assumptions made the plane able to take off, but it was dramatically slow (maximum speed at about 180 km / h!), Had a very poor climb rate and was not very maneuverable. All this prevented the machine from entering serial production. In total, only a few of its prototypes were built.
