The Tupolev Tu-134 was a Soviet-made twin-engine passenger and transport jet plane. The propulsion was provided by two Soloviev D-30-II turbojet engines. The prototype flight took place in 1963, and serial production continued in 1966-1984 at the Kharkiv Aviation Works. About 850 aircraft of this type were built in its course. Single copies of this aircraft were still in service in 2016.

The Tupolev Tu-134 was created in response to the demand reported by the Aeroflot airline for a completely new passenger plane, much more technologically advanced than the Tu-124. The Tupolev Design Bureau originally wanted to significantly modify the Tu-124 machine, but in the end it was decided to create a completely new aircraft. Finally, the Tu-134 used many technological innovations that appeared in Western designs in the 1950s and 1960s, such as engines placed on pylons at the rear of the fuselage. From the design side, the plane turned out to be a successful machine, but it did not provide high travel comfort due to the large noise in the cabin and its tightness. The machine, in the course of serial production, has received several development versions, such as: Tu-134 (the first mass-produced passenger version), Tu-134A (extended version, capable of taking up to 84 passengers), Tu-134SH (aircraft for special tasks) or Tu-134UBL (aircraft used for training pilots). Tupolev Tu-134 planes were used by airlines from countries such as Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Poland (LOT Polish Airlines) and the Soviet Union.
