LAV-R (ang. Light Armored Vehicle-Recovery) is an American, modern, wheeled technical support and evacuation vehicle. The first cars of this type entered service with the US Marines in 1986. The drive is provided by a single motor Detroit Diesel 6V53T with a power of 275 hp. The cart is 7.24 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The curb weight of the vehicle is 12.8 tons. The armament consists of a single 7.62 mm machine gun.
The LAV-R was developed as a development version of the LAV-25. Compared to its predecessor, it differs mainly in dimensions (the LAV-R is longer and wider), it also has a raised rear part. It also received a specialized crane that is able to lift elements with a maximum weight of up to approx. 4,100 kg and the ability to tow vehicles weighing up to 13.6 tons. However, it does not have a turret with main weapons. The crew of the vehicle usually consists of 3-4 people, while the standard LAV-25 crew is 3 men. The LAV-R provides its crew members with protection against artillery fragments and small-caliber fire with a caliber of up to 12.7 mm. The vehicle has good off-road properties and amphibious abilities. It is also possible to transport it by air, e.g. with the C-130 Hercules plane or the CH-53 E Super Stallion helicopter.
