USS George Washington (SSBN-598) was an American nuclear-powered submarine carrying ballistic missile (SSBN) missiles. The keel for this unit was laid in 1958, the launch took place in June 1959, and the entry into service with the US Navy took place in December of the same year. The ship was 116.3 meters long, 10 meters wide, and had a displacement of 6,700 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approx. 22 knots. The main armament was 16 Polaris ballistic missile launchers and 6 533 mm torpedo tubes.

USS George Washington (SSBN-598) was the leading unit of the class of submarines of the same name. Units of this type, after a very rapid process of research and development, in the course of which their design was based on Skipjack-class units, became the first class of nuclear-powered submarines, carrying ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads. It is worth adding that it was from the deck of the USS George Washington that this type of missile was fired as the first submarine in the history. On units of this type, rotation of crews every 60 days was also used for the first time. The USS George Washington was initially armed with Polaris A-1 missiles, but in the course of service it was rearmed with much more perfect Polaris A-3 missiles. During its service, the unit carried out 55 combat patrols, both in the Atlantic and the Pacific. The ship was decommissioned in 1998.
