USS New York (BB-34) was an American battleship laid down in 1911, launched in October 1912, and commissioned in the US Navy in April 1914. The ship was 175 m long, 29 m wide, and had a full displacement of 28,800 tons. The maximum speed of the USS New York battleship was around 21-22 knots. The main armament was 10 356 mm guns in five turrets, two guns each, and the secondary armament was primarily 21 127 mm guns.
USS New York was the first of two battleships of the same type. The New York-class battleships were essentially improved Wyoming-class battleships. The main change was to use a larger caliber main artillery (356 mm instead of 305 mm). In contrast, the armor structure was close to that of the Wyoming type and did not follow the "all or nothing" principle. In general, the New York-class battleships had good artillery armament, strong armor, but low top speed. USS New York (BB-34) took part in World War I - in 1917 she joined the British Grand Fleet operating in the North Sea, but in its framework it did not have any major battle with Hochseeflotte. Instead, he was present at its surrender in November 1918 in the Firth of Forth. In the interwar period, USS New York performed various representative and educational functions. At the outbreak of the next world war, he served in the Atlantic Fleet and in the period 1939-1941 he operated, among others, in the area of Newfoundland and Iceland. From the end of 1941, he served as a convoy in the Atlantic, covering American ships bound for British ports. In November 1942, he was designated to cover the Allied landing in North Africa (Operation Torch). After this operation, in the period 1943-1944 she was a training ship, but in 1945 she was transferred to the Pacific and took part in operations against Iwo-Jima and Okinawa. USS New York (BB-34) was sunk in a nuclear test at Bikini Atoll in 1946 as a target ship.
