The Orlik Castle is a Czech stronghold dating back to the late Middle Ages, located in South Bohemia on the Vltava River. Based on source studies, it can be stated that the Orlik Castle was built in the mid-fourteenth century by the order of the then outstanding Czech King Charles IV of Luxembourg. The new building replaced the wooden and earth structure used so far. At the beginning of the early modern era, the stronghold became the property of the Schwarzenberg family, and it was this mighty family that financed the reconstruction of the castle after the fire of the 16th century. The castle took on an eminently Renaissance character, which, however, at the beginning of the 19th century, was suppressed during the reconstruction by neo-Gothic elements. At that time, the castle was also surrounded by a landscape park. At present, the Orlik Castle serves primarily as a museum.
